How It Started
I was lucky enough to be chosen for a Globe Runner Scholarship, which is awarded to high-achieving high-school students and provides the opportunity to study abroad and gain a global perspective beyond their local communities. The scholarship is associated with AFS, an intercultural learning program helping students develop the knowledge to create a more just and peaceful world. When I found out I was accepted, I was given a choice of programs in various countries, and I chose Germany. In this program, 20 students explore how transatlantic collaborations can bring about real change in society for a social and sustainable future, and how transatlantic values can be implemented in the areas of politics, business, and society. This program brings together 10 participants from the U.S. and 10 from Germany for an interactive learning experience focused on global challenges, civic engagement, and shared perspectives. This is an opportunity to become a global citizen by immersing myself in Germany's culture and learning about transatlantic relations, all while discovering a love for travel! This blog is a way for you to view Germany through the lens of a high-school girl, and to come along on this journey with me.
So read on and enjoy!

About Me

Hi I’m Iyla!
I’m a high school student from New Mexico with a passion for dancing, music, writing (hence the blog!) and all things artistic. This blog is a little window into my trip to Germany as I explore what it means to travel, grow, and experience life beyond my hometown. Its also a a space for me to write, reflect, and share that process with you in my first ever published blog! Fun fact: I have never traveled alone before and never beyond North America. So this adventure is both nerve-wrecking and exciting. But that’s exactly what makes it worth sharing.
Thanks for being here, I can’t wait to share my trip with you!
